Minimum criteria for admission are as follows
EITHER
• Minimum age of 18 years PLUS
• English language: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550 or 75% in Shelton’s English Language Test or an equivalent score in any other approved English language test* PLUS
• Relevant Shelton Diploma
OR
• Successful completion of fi rst year of study on an approved UK 3-year
Bachelor degree
OR
• Other recognised qualifi cations of approved overseas Institutions of Higher Education PLUS any necessary subject pre-requisites PLUS additional skills modules if required.

Aims:
The Advanced Diploma in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality programme allows students to acquire the critical business knowledge and offering a wider choice of specialization. The program is specially designed to inculcate students the concepts and tools for more effective managerial responsibilities in tourism industry. The course offers an interactive medium for individuals to learn critical thinking, perform analytical studies, as well as to develop logical arguments to support the business decision-making process.
On completion of the programme the students will develop:

Module Synopsis:
Business Law
This unit provides an introduction to basic principles of law relating to business. It develops student’s knowledge of general principles of contract and criminal law, and more specific statutory provisions relating to consumer and employee protection. It also provides an introduction to business units, their formation, management and dissolution. The student is encouraged to analyse and evaluate legal provisions and to adopt a practical approach to problem solving.
Financial Management
This module aims to develop the student’s understanding of business finance/ financial management, emphasising its integration with financial/ cost and management accounting and to introduce students to the area of company re-organizations and acquisitions.
Marketing Management
This module aims to develop the students’ appreciation of the role and value of marketing in a variety of organization settings, the types and the management of the marketing mix to achieve objectives and the nature and sources of information used in marketing management.
Corporate Strategy
This module covers the analysis of strategic problems, application of techniques and concepts available to the corporate planner, assessment and choice among strategic options, understanding of the financial, human and organizational issues which influence the development and implementation of corporate strategies and plans and the assessment of the impact and implications of international and global issues on the corporate strategic planning process.
Tourism and Environment
This module aims for students to understand the environmental impacts of tourism and the methods of planning and managing tourism development in order to counteract the negative impacts which will be examined with reference to case studies at regional destination, site and individual company level.
Travel Tour Management
The module covers the structure, operation and organization of the travel agency and tour operation sectors. It will help the students to understand the conceptual meaning and differentiation between travel agency and tour operations.
International Tourism
This module is developed for the students to understand the patterns, principles and management of the international tourism, travel and hospitality industry and the relationship between the various components of the industry and the patterns of global tourism.
Travel Tourism and Hospitality Operations Management
The aim of this module is to develop the students’ theoretical grasp of the principles of operational management and the ability to apply these principles to professional practice in service sector organizations.
Assessments
The 8 modules are assessed by a written examination or a written examination and an assignment or projects. The examinations are of 3 hours duration for a maximum score of 100%. The examinations are held at the end of each module and re-sit examinations are conducted after the assessment and award board meetings which are held 3 times each year.

Module Synopsis:
Advanced Financial Accounting
This module is designed to build on the basic understanding of accounting principles and concepts covered in diploma level. Students will be provided with knowledge of the current international accounting standards and harness on their ability to demonstrate a range of financial accounting techniques
Management Accounting Techniques
This module is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of the preparation and processes involved in cost and management accounting which are needed by management in its planning and decision making responsibilities.
Taxation
This module is designed to develop knowledge and skills relating to the Singapore tax system as applicable to individuals and companies
Financial Reports
This module is designed to develop the basic techniques in preparing financial statements and develop knowledge and understanding of more advanced financial accounting concepts and principles. Students will be required to apply the understanding by preparing and interpreting financial reports in a practical context.
Audit
This module is designed to develop knowledge and understanding of the audit process and its application in the context of the external regulatory framework and for business control and development.

Human Resource Management
This module provides an introduction to the concepts and practices of Human Resource Management. It aims at providing an understanding of the personnel function of management through the consideration of systems and frameworks, which create and sustain the employment relationship within the organisation
Information Management
This unit enables students to recognize the need for managers to be able to gather, analyze, record, store and disseminate information as part of the management function. The focus of the unit is not on information systems but on the processes. The unit develops the skills and techniques involved in managing information, and students will learn to manage information to inform decision-making.
Fundamentals of Marketing
This module aims to investigate the principles that underpin the marketing process and how they apply in business. It is a broad-based unit providing a general overview of marketing for all students and a foundation for further study in the specialist area of marketing
